Mathematics Department

All students must complete three years of mathematics as a requirement of graduation, although the math department encourages students to complete four years of mathematics. The math teachers prepare students for the rigors of college math with the higher level courses of Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and the newly added AP Statistics. However, it is part of our vision to provide every student with a sound basis in mathematics that they can apply to every day situations as well as the fundamentals needed for the various tests that they will have to take, such as the HSPA, the SAT’s, the ACT, and employment or college placement exams.

Recently,  Mr. Kaufmann has begun a Chess Club where students can exercise their skills in critical thinking as well as logic. It is not unusual to find students coming after school and during lunch hour to play chess in addition to coming for extra help in math classes.
